about

Following his “gorgeous” (AV Club) and “hypnotizing” (Make Weird Music) 59-track experimental synth collection, Sound for Bombs, songwriter Andrew Jones returns to form with demons and flying saucers by his side.

In the first-of-a-series EP, Tales of Doom, Jones plumbs the occult for two true stories of implanted memories, strange UFO cults, extraterrestrials, brainwashed women, and the men who loved them.

“Kalliope” examines the failed marriage between supposed extraterrestrial contactee Billy Meier and his former wife Kalliope Zafiriou as his UFO cult gained a devout following.

“Mary” revisits the 1995 Frontline episode, “In Search of Satan” from the perspective of the husband who left his wife after she was accused of witchcraft, institutionalized, and implanted with false memories of abuse at the hands of a non-existent satanic cult.

Jones explained the sinister truths revealed from the male perspective in the songs: “These stories are really about women enduring outrageous scenarios, but since these events took place, the men involved have had their actions excused in every way imaginable. Imagining their side of the story meant presenting an egregious sentimentality void of accountability. The songs show that even among devils and aliens, the men in these women’s lives created the most dangerous and unwelcome circumstances, and shaped their own tales of doom.”
